This year on Friday , 8 March we were honoured to attend and participated in International Women’s Day celebration 2024 in Wakefield. The theme was #inspire Inclusion with emphasis on investing in all women globally.
The event was in collaboration with the Mayor of Wakefield and Wakefield Council and more than 100 people attended the wonderful event organised by Claire Sutherly of We are Wakefield.
The event, which took place at the Wakefield Town Hall brought together women ( and men !) from all over the district.
The atmosphere was filled with expectation as the speakers spoke of their lived experiences as women, in government, it their communities and in their workplaces.
Our founder, Lucy Ndlovu said: “Gender Equity is for all women regardless of their race, status or professional roles and positions. I recognise that for many Black professional women they statistically face many challenges. I am here to advocate and speak of the inequalities they face and their underrepresentation in leadership positions. However, to progress we need the solidarity and allyship across all identity groups.”
Claire Sutherly, Managing Director of We Are Wakefield said: “The event is a moment to reflect on how we can collectively inspire inclusion in everything we do.”
A huge thanks to the panelists The Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr Josie Pritchard, and Cllr Denise Jeffery, Leader of Wakefield Council and Tracy Carpenter from Mint HR for encouraging everyone to be part of this amazing movement, one that will hopefilly finally see all women winning!
